The Contest

Open to all patrons of the Rainier City Library.
Submit in-person between March 15 and April 30, 2022

Step 1: Pick a category.
Step 2: Write a poem.
Step 3: Revise and make it better.
Step 4: Bring your poem to the Library.


Please select only one category when you submit a poem.
You can submit as many poems as you write!
Submit by 2:30 p.m. Saturday April 30, 2022.

Winners will be announced live in Rainier City Park.
Tentatively scheduled for Saturday May 14. Time TBD.


Our judge will select a winner for each category:
  1. Haiku
    (5-7-5)
  2. Play with sound
    (rhyme, alliteration, consonance, assonance, etc.)
  3. Love poem
    (any style)
  4. Current events
    (any style)

Our fifth winner gets the Elementary Poetry Prize.
This award goes to the top poem by an elementary age writer (k - 5th grade). 
Elementary students should submit in one of the four categories. 
(If you are a win your category, you will not be eligible for the Elementary Poetry Prize.)
